Age Requirements

To receive discount fares based on age, please check that the qualifications below are met. If there are only adult fares available for your itinerary, we will quote adult fares.

Senior: To qualify for available senior fares, passengers must be age 60 or over.

Youth: To qualify for available youth fares, passengers must be 25 and under.

Child: : Age requirements to qualify for child fares vary by product and country. Please check the details for the specific product you select. Please note that ages 4 through 11 generally qualify for the child fares except for:

  • Austria: Ages 6-15
  • Belgium: Ages 6-11
  • Bulgaria: Ages 6-11
  • Denmark: Ages 6-15
  • Czech Republic: Ages 6-11
  • Finland: Ages 6-16

FAQ for New USA Rail Pass

Question: When are these new passes valid?

Answer: New passes are valid for purchase and travel starting October 1 2008.  All previous versions of the Rail Pass (Northeast, East, West and National) are still valid for travel up until April 30, 2009.

Question: Are the Passes available to book on-line?

Answer: Yes, the Pass itself can be booked on-line.  Segments & upgraded accommodations can be requested at time of booking or added later while traveling.

Question: What is the definition of a segment?

Answer: One segment equals each boarding and disembarkation of a train or City to City pair. For example, Washington to Chicago with a connection in Pittsburgh would be considered 2 segments. Sleeping accommodations require an additional charge. Prices are valid all year with no Peak Pricing supplements.

Question: How will thruway bus services count?

Answer: The use of thruway bus services will count as a segment.

Question: what are the booking conditions?

Answers:

  • Start date and pick up station is required.
  • Country of residence is not needed. Passport number, expiry date and date of birth is required for cross-border journeys.
  • The USA Rail Pass is valid for citizens of any country. USA and Canada residents are also elegible.
  • Not valid on the Acela, Metroliner & Autotrains. 
  • One infant (under the age of 2) can travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult (16 years of age and older).
  • 50% discount for children ages 2-15
  • No peak or blackout dates.Seats are limited.
